In the ever-evolving realm of music, one genre has been quietly but steadily making waves, capturing the attention of listeners around the globe-- indie pop. This movement can be traced back to the mid 1980's when British bands such as the Smiths, took centre stage. This blog post will explore the rise of indie pop, and take a closer look at some of the successful upcoming artists steering this sonic revolution.

Indie pop grew from a collective craving for something different, something raw and unfiltered, as music enthusiasts sought to break free from the formulaic nature of mainstream pop. Defined by its DIY ethos, indie pop artists create music that's not confined by industry norms, allowing for a rich tapestry of sounds, influences, and narratives; it seamlessly fuses elements of indie rock- folk, electronic and alternative music. Artists such as Lorde, Haim, Alt-J and Clairo demonstrate this.

The digital age has played a pivotal role in the rise of this genre. Independent platforms and streaming services have provided a level playing field for artists to showcase their work, sidestepping traditional gatekeepers. This democratisation of music distribution has empowered indie pop artists to connect directly with their audience, fostering a sense of community and authenticity. TikTok has become the most useful platform for emerging artists, as they are able to promote their music to a large audience, for free. Indie-pop artists/groups 'Master Peace' and 'Sterling Press' are successfully navigating the digital platform, and are definitely ones to watch.

With a diverse array of artists pushing boundaries and challenging norms, the future of indie pop looks promising and exciting. So, whether you're a seasoned indie aficionado or a casual listener, keep your ears tuned to the indie pop revolution-- it's here to stay.
